What are S1P work shoes?

S1P work shoes are safety shoes with S1 properties and additional puncture protection in the sole, according to the EN ISO 20345 standard.
With S1P safety shoes, you can generally expect:
  • Protective toe cap (safety toe).
  • Closed heel, antistatic properties, and energy absorption in the heel.
  • The “P”: a penetration/perforation-resistant insole that protects your foot from sharp objects from below.
Do you see an “SRC” on a model? That is a slip rating indicating that the sole has been tested on two surfaces (SRA and SRB) within EN ISO 20345:2011.

Difference S1P, S1, and S3

Are you unsure between S1P work shoes, S1, or S3? Use this as a quick choice guide: S1 for dry and “clean”, S1P for dry with sharp risks, and S3 if you work (also) wet, muddy, or outdoors.

S1P work shoes by profession

S1P work shoes are especially logical if you work indoors but have a chance of sharp debris on the floor (think of pallets, staples, metal or wood scraps).
  • Warehouse & logistics: ideal for pallets, packaging materials, and occasionally sharp remnants; also check work shoes for warehouse staff.
  • Workshop / assembly / technical service: handy if screws, burrs, or chips may be lying around.
  • Production & assembly: nice if you walk a lot and still want extra sole protection.
  • Internal (de)construction or renovation indoors: S1P is a safe choice as long as it stays dry.
Do you regularly encounter rain, puddles, mud, or wet grass? Then S1P is usually too “open/dry” and you are better off with S3 work shoes.

Materials and comfort of S1P work shoes

Many S1P work shoes are designed for comfort during long walks: light, sporty, and well-ventilated, so you get warm feet less quickly on the work floor.
