The certainty of a specialty store, the convenience of online
Buying safety shoes online often feels like a gamble. Will it fit? Is the toe cap sturdy enough for my job? That uncertain feeling is exactly what we at SchoenenvanStaal wanted to eliminate. Our company originates from the physical store in De Meern where founder Paul personally advised customers for ten years. We didn't want to lose that legacy of human contact and in-depth product knowledge when the physical store closed its doors.

New, digital path
That's why we turned things around in 2026. Thom thought it was a shame if the work and knowledge of his father Paul would slowly fade away. As a web developer, he saw opportunities to modernize the business without losing the soul of the family company. Together, we made a plan to fully digitize the business.
Our mission
Our mission is to translate the experience of the physical store to your screen. That sounds ambitious, but we believe we can achieve this by being completely transparent. In a store, you can grab, weigh, and examine a shoe. On our webshop, we compensate for that by showing as many product specifications as possible. We don't limit ourselves to standard information but delve into materials, safety classifications, fits, and pros and cons per product. With Paul's expertise, we ensure that all the details that matter to a professional are immediately visible. You need to know exactly what you're ordering, without surprises later on.
Customer-focused, but online
Moreover, we don't believe in anonymous webshops where you drown in choice menus. Just like in the store in De Meern, you should be able to ask a question. Our customer service is therefore not an afterthought, but the core of our business. We're here for advice, help with sizing, or just to brainstorm which shoe fits your work environment.
Since we've been co-owners, we bring together the best of both worlds: Paul’s years of expertise, product knowledge, and customer focus, along with Thom’s technical foundation. This way, we ensure that SchoenenvanStaal also feels like the trusted specialty store of the past, even digitally.
