The profession of a carpenter is dynamic. One moment you're on a scaffold, the next you're on your knees installing baseboards or walking over a construction site full of debris. Standard work shoes often aren't enough. For carpentry, you're specifically looking for a combination of flexibility and robust protection. Since you kneel a lot, a shoe with a 'overneus' (crawl toe) is actually indispensable; this prevents the leather on the toe from wearing through and exposing the steel toe. Additionally, a good anti-perforation sole is essential to prevent nails or screws from penetrating your foot sole.
S3 or S1P: Which safety class suits your job?
The choice between safety classes strongly depends on your work environment. Do you work a lot outdoors on the rough construction, in mud or in the rain? Then S3 work shoes are the standard. They are water-repellent and offer the highest protection against sharp objects on the ground. However, if you mainly work indoors on finishing, in a workshop, or in dry conditions? Then S1P work shoes might be a better choice. They offer the same protection for your toes and foot soles as the S3 variant, but are often lighter and more breathable because they don't need to be waterproof. For heavy outdoor work, however, we always recommend our collection of s3 work shoes.
Comfort and fit for everyone
A carpenter works long days and stands a lot. Tired feet at the end of the day are often the result of an incorrect fit or a shoe that is too heavy. Fortunately, the clunky boots of the past are a thing of the past. Nowadays, a lot of attention is paid to cushioning in the heel and support for the arch of the foot. Since foot shape varies from person to person, we have compiled a wide range. We have specific lasts for wide feet, but also an extensive selection of men's work shoes and models specifically developed for the anatomy of the women's foot. Check out our women's work shoes for models with a narrower last and adjusted fit.
Appearance: From sporty sneaker to classic construction shoe
In addition to safety and comfort, appearance plays an increasingly important role. You don't have to compromise on style at the construction site. Many carpenters nowadays opt for a sportier look that is lighter to wear and offers more flexibility while moving. A popular choice in this category is the work shoes sneaker. These models look like casual shoes but come with all the necessary safety certifications. Whether you choose a classic high leather shoe for extra ankle support or a low sporty model for more freedom of movement; the right shoe contributes to safe and enjoyable work.
